Hello and welcome to Fuel my Fiction: Home of the People on Paper Podcast!
The People On Paper podcast is a resource for writers who are trying to create honest, accurate and believable characters. Each week on the People on Paper podcast I interview real people, in depth, about one focused part of their life: Profession, Lifestyle, Culture, Mental Health, Physical Difference, Age, Family, or Experience.
Through listening to people tell their own stories, in their own voice, this podcast will give writers and all listeners the chance to understand the nuanced reality of other people’s lives. The interviews are set up to be honest and informative – there are not right or wrong answers and I have no agenda.
As a writer I know that understanding all the complexities of a character – their job, their motivation, their history – is integral to creating a rich and believable character. But unless you have had the job, the experience, the lifestyle – or know someone who has – it can be hard to get the information you need to write that perfect scene.
What do teacher’s do when they have to pee in the middle of a class? What does a career triathlete eat for breakfast? What is the average daily income for the homeless guy sitting outside the local grocery market? How does one become a nudist? How does one go about getting a job when you are living in the country as an illegal immigrant?
